How does a cake rise.
Cakes are mostly used on special occasions or sometimes just used to show people that you are a good cook. I have always wondered how does a cake rise that is why I will be telling you how does a cake rise. Some of you probably think that the oven is magic and the cake rises because of the oven. But it is actually from what you put in the cake, the cake rises from something called baking powder, but how does the baking powder make the cake rise.
Baking powder looks like flour but is actually much different. If you have rubbed your hands on baking powder it’s really smooth but their are tiny tiny little air bubbles in baking powder. When the cake is placed in the oven the heat of the oven makes the air bubbles increase in size and the cake rises. If you cut your cake in half you will probably see decently sized air bubbles in the cake.
But what if your cake doesn't rise? There are two reasons why your cake doesn’t rise, one of the reasons is you didn't put enough baking powder in your cake or you didn't put any at all. The second reason why your cake won't rise is your oven isn't at the right temperature. How much does a cake rise the average length for a cake to rise is ¼ of an inch. But some cakes are different and some recipes are different so some cakes rise differently but the average cake rises ¼ of an inch.
